HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., held a special ceremony over the weekend as part of its annual founder's day celebration.
The event was held at the Trent Lott Center on the campus of the University of Southern Mississippi. It honors high school seniors who have achieved in the areas of academics , arts and athletics.
Founder's Day chairman Jermaine Brown said the ceremony is about encouraging young men to always strive for success.
"I think that part of the program where we recognize those students is really really vital to our mission as kappa's as men, as African American men. We want to be able to support what our men are doing in and out of the classroom. I think it's just vital," Brown said.
Each year the fraternity honors its ten founders nationally as well as local high school students.
