Former Laurel murder suspect back behind bars again

LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - A Laurel man who was previously charged with two counts of murder in 2014 is back behind bars for heroin again.

This is the second time in less than 4 months that Maurice Jones, 24, has been arrested and charged with the sale of a controlled substance.

His bond was denied Thursday due to the fact that he was already out on bond for the October 2014 narcotics charge.

Jones was also released from jail back in July, 3 month prior to his narcotics charge, after the grand jury returned no true bills for murder against him. The no true bill was based on the fact that the only alleged eye witness to the crime had recanted her story. The crime Jones was previously connected to took place on Woodlawn Drive January 2014 where victims Justin Curry and Bennie Owens were exiting the front door of a home when they were shot multiple times. Curry died at the scene and Owens died in surgery.

After the no true bill report in July three of the suspects were released from jail including Jones.
