ELLISVILLE, MS (WDAM) - Over 400 high school students from over 26 school districts from the southern counties of the state attended the DECA District 4 and 5 competition held on Thursday on the campus of Jones County Junior College.
Students who attended the event participated in problem solving related to a real-life business environment. The event also allowed students to network with other students from across the state in discussing ideas pertaining to their particular field of interest. In the past, some students have even had job opportunities offered to them.
The competition will award winners in a variety of categories such as hotel and lodging, human resource management, accounting, travel and tourism along with a variety of other categories.
The top six qualifiers that win in their designated category will then go on to compete in the state finals, to be held in Jackson, Mississippi on February, 19-20.
After that event, the top three finalist in 25 categories will compete in the international competition to be held in Orlando, Florida at the end of April. DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe.
