The Collins Police Department will soon have direct access to the National Criminal Information Center.
The NCIC is the United States database for tracking crime related information, Up until now they have been going through the Covington County Sheriff's Department to get information on an individual on a national level. Having the system installed in their dispatch center will allow them to get information in a more timely manner.
"If the officer is on a traffic stop he can call in the tag number and find out who it is registered to," said Joey Ponder, Collins Police Chief. "It will come back with any criminal history and any crime the driver has committed will come back on the NCIC."
The cost to get the system up and running is around $4000 and the system has a monthly service fee of $225.
