JACKSON – Gov. Phil Bryant issues the following statement on the death of former Department of Public Safety Commissioner George Phillips.
"Deborah and I are saddened to learn of the death of our friend George. I knew George well and worked with him for more than 20 years as he served Mississippi at the Bureau of Narcotics and as commissioner of the Department of Public Safety. His service as commissioner was particularly important as he led troopers and other first responders with courage and commitment to bring Mississippi through the dark days following Hurricane Katrina. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time. He will be greatly missed."
