While the weather isn't an indicator, Southern Miss baseball officially opened the 2015 season with their first spring practice this afternoon at Pete Taylor Park.
"I think the enthusiasm probably warms everything up, honestly," head coach Scott Berry said. "Just the ability to get back out there since we've been off for at least two months now. So, the guys are excited and the coaching staff is excited."
The Golden Eagles finished last season with a 35-25 record and an appearance in the Conference USA tournament before being bounced in the semifinals by UTSA.
Berry's crew is replacing several arms off the pitching staff and a few position players that were selected in the MLB draft.
Senior right-handed pitcher Christian Talley said, "It's been a while since we've been out on the field together, everybody as a team. Pitchers have primarily been together so far in the spring."
"It's exciting like I said, but definitely cold. So, it's nice to get out there and get your blood pumping and get warm again."
USM opens the season against Murray State at home February 13. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
