HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - This is a news release from Jones County Junior College
Jones County Junior College is hosting the annual Southeast Mississippi Band Directors Association Clinic January 30, and 31, 2015. Almost 1000 middle and high school students from district five auditioned earlier in the month to earn the right to participate in this clinic and concert.
JCJC's Symphonic Band will start the weekend clinic on Friday, by entertaining the students with a concert at 1:30 p.m., in the M.P. Bush Fine Arts Auditorium. The concert will include a musical arrangement of the song, "All Those Endearing Young Charms," featuring tuba soloist and USM music professor, Dr. Richard Perry. This concert is free and open to the public.
High school and junior high school students will then continue practicing their concert pieces Friday afternoon and evening, January 30, to prepare for their Saturday, January 31, concerts. About 400 students in the two senior high and two junior high bands will be featured in concert beginning at 1:30 p.m., in the M.P. Bush Fine Arts Auditorium. These concerts are also free and open to the public.
JCJC has hosted the SEMBDA clinic since it began more than 35 years ago. Jones hosted its own Band Clinic last weekend, January 17-18, with about 400 students in attendance. For more information call JCJC band director, Dr. Jonathan Helmick at 601-477-4095 or 4094 or email: email@example.com.
