A trial date has been set for a Jones County man charged with ten counts of animal cruelty.
In December Zavier Arrington was charged after 10 neglected dogs were found on his property. The nine-Pit Bulls and one-Chihuahua were found chained in the yard with no food, water, or shelter and all were living in deplorable conditions. All the dogs were rescued by the Southern Cross Animal Rescue. After being examined, all the dogs were found to have varying medical problems.
"We encourage people to come out and support our cause here, not just our cause, this is a community cause," said Heather Williams, SCAR President. "This is us standing together saying we're tired of us. We're ready to do something for this. It's not okay to abuse and neglect animals. There are laws in place for a reason and the only way people are going to learn there lesson and think twice before abusing an animal is if they see there are repercussions."
Arrington's trial date has been set for Feb 5, in Jones County Justice Court.
