A brush fire on Vinson Drive in Ellisville spread to consume a home Tuesday afternoon.
Fire crews from Jones County, Ellisville, and Laurel responded to the call around 1 p.m. After about an hour, the fire had already burned 25 to 30 acres of land. Fire crews were unable to get in front of the fire because it was moving northeast so quickly. They are working to contain the fire and prevent damage to two nearby homes. The Mississippi Forestry Commission is also assisting in hopes of containing the blaze by this evening.
"In our area, in Jones County, we're really dry still," said Dan McKenna, Jones County Fire Coordinator. "We're having significant brush fires. We had another structure yesterday that we lost, consumed by fire. So now is not the time to be doing burning."
Dry vegetation and low humidity are a dangerous combination. Avoid burning at all costs.
