MARION COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

One man is dead after losing control of his vehicle Monday morning and plunging into the Pearl River in Marion County.

Vencient Robinson, 49, a Columbia resident was driving a white SUV east on Highway 98 around 10:30 a.m. when he lost control of his vehicle. 

Eyewitnesses said Robinson began to drive erratically, hitting one guardrail, then another before his vehicle plummeted into the water. 

Emergency officials including a dive crew and search and rescue teams responded to the accident, and were able to pull the vehicle out of the river.

This accident is still under investigation. 

Officials said that the highway will be back open late Monday.

    A town hall meeting will be held Monday, July 16 to discuss the decriminalization of marijuana in Hattiesburg.
