Manhunt over: Suspected Jones County car thief captured

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - The hunt for a suspected Jones County car thief is over.

Aaron Haynes was arrested at approximately 8 p.m. Thursday after he was spotted inside a home on Taylor Drive in the Soso Community. When deputies approached the home Haynes fled into the woods, which is where he was arrested.

Sheriff Alex Hodge said the owners of the home Haynes broke into were out of town. He said Haynes is facing numerous felony charges including residential burglary, auto burglary and two counts simple assault on a law enforcement officer.

Sheriff Hodge thanks all agencies who were involved and helped with this search that lasted almost 12 hours.

Since 8 a.m. Thursday deputies had been searching for Haynes after they found him inside a reported stolen vehicle parked behind the Springhill Mauldin Community Center. Deputies said as they tried to arrest him he assaulted two of the officers and fled the scene barefooted.
