3 charged in Petal shoplifting incident

PETAL, MS (WDAM) -

Three people are behind bars and facing multiple charges after an alleged shoplifting incident at Wal-Mart in Petal.

Dimirti Milsap, 22, Shawn Moore, 20, and Brittany Simmons, 20, were all taken into custody a short time after the incident.

According to a press release from the Petal Police Department, officers responded to a shoplifting call at the Petal Wal-Mart on Tuesday.

Petal police were provided information by a loss prevention officer, who detailed three suspects that had exited the store with merchandise and that one suspect had assaulted him (the officer).

The prevention officer advised that the suspects had fled the scene in a white Chevrolet Impala. Shortly after, Petal police spotted the vehicle on Byrd Ave. near Wal-Mart.

Officers' attempted to stop the vehicle by activating blue lights and sirens, but the vehicle would not stop. Officers' with Petal Police Department pursued the vehicle within the city limits of Petal to Ellisville, MS.

Officers' were able to get the vehicle stopped by use of a spike strip provided by Ellisville Police Department. The suspects were placed into custody without incident.

The suspects arrested are: Dimitri Milsap, 22, of Heidelberg, charged with shoplifting 1st, Felony Fleeing and Eluding, Shawn Moore, 20, of Vossburg, charged with shoplifting 1st, and Brittany Simmons, 20, of Laurel, charged with shoplifting 1st and false identifying information.

    The University of Southern Mississippi ended Saturday’s regular-season baseball finale at Marshall University the same way it started, with a bang. The 18th-ranked Golden Eagles sent 13 batters to the plate in both the second and ninth innings, scoring eight runs in each, as USM finished off a first-ever sweep of the Thundering Herd on its home turf with a 18-9 victory at Epling Stadium.

    A man is recovering from injuries after he claims he was beaten by officers with the Laurel Police Department. Thirty-six-year-old James Barnett indicated the incident took place on Tuesday, May 15.
