WESSON – Bryce Jones scored 19 points and had five assists to lead the 21
-ranked Jones County Junior College Bobcats to an 89-71victory over Copiah-Lincoln Community College here Monday night at Mullen Gymnasium.
The win lifts the Bobcats to 10-0 overall, 3-0 in the MACJC South Division.
The victory also sets up a showdown with rival Pearl River Community College on Thursday at A.B. Howard Gymnasium. The 19
-ranked Wildcats are also unbeaten at 12-0 after a 78-61 victory over Hinds on Monday.
In the women's game, the Lady Wolves placed five players in double figures, as they also remained unbeaten with a 91-74 decision over JCJC.
The Bobcats return home Thursday to face Pearl River in the “Catfight” on the hardwood. The women's game begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men's contest at 7:30 p.m. and both games will air on
Co-Lin travels to East Central on Thursday.
Bobcats 89, Wolves 71
The Bobcats shot 57 percent from the field in defeating Co-Lin.
JCJC was 35-of-61 from the floor, including 12-of-30 from 3-point range. The Bobcats were 18-of-29 from the field in the first half for 62 percent. They were 8-of-14 from the foul line.
The Bobcats led wire-to-wire, jumping out to a 9-1 lead three minutes into play. They led 27-15 with eight minutes left in the first half and were up 45-30 at halftime.
The lead stayed in that range for the remainder of the game. The Bobcats were up 67-50 with just less than nine minutes remaining.
Jones's 19 points led the team. Marquis Cunningham added 13, Christopher “CJ” White had 12, Otis Harvey had 11 and Rodrigus Palmer had 10.
Terry Morris had 18 for Co-Lin, 2-10 and 0-3. Jordan Lumpkins added 13, Chris Williams had 12, Tyler Turner had 11 and Jadarius Haymer had 10.
The Wolves connected on 22-of-56 shots from the field, including 6-of-20 from 3-point range, for 39 percent. They were 23-of-31 from the foul line.
JCJC outrebounded Co-Lin 36-33 and the Bobcats committed 13 turnovers, while the Wolves committed 16.
Lady Wolves 91, Lady Bobcats 74
Co-Lin upped its record to 12-0 overall, 3-0 in the South Division with the victory.
The Lady Wolves pretty much led wire-to-wire. They were up 10-9 five minutes into the game, 30-23 with 6:45 left in the first half and 41-35 at halftime.
The Lady Wolves led by as many as 20 midway through the second half. JCJC trimmed the margin to 71-62 with just over seven minutes remaining before Co-Lin outscored them 20-12 the rest of the way.
Alyson Johnson had 17 points for the Lady Bobcats, 8-3 overall and 2-1 in the division. Terrica Williams added 14 and Kadie Parker had 10.
Toni Woods and Claresa Banks had 17 points each for Co-Lin. Alexis Collins added 13, Kelley Allen had 12 and Jamilah Sanders had 11.
JCJC was 27-of-60 from the field, including 4-of-14 from 3-point range, for 45 percent. The Lady Bobcats were 16-of-23 from the free throw line.
Co-Lin was 39-of-82 from the floor, including 5-of-19 from the 3-point line, for 48 percent. The Lady Wolves were 8-of-21 from the free throw line.
Each team had 44 rebounds, but the Lady Bobcats committed 28 turnovers, compared to just 17 for Co-Lin.
