Hattiesburg, Miss. - William Carey University head coach Steve Knight picked up career win number 600 as his Crusaders defeated Coastal Georgia, 77-68 in SSAC action Friday night at Clinton Gym.
With the win No. 20 William Carey improves to 10-3 overall and 4-1 in SSAC action.
In the first half, the Crusaders took control of the game late in the half as they closed with a 17-8 run to take a 36-26 lead at the half. WCU stretched the lead to as many as 14 points early in the second half before the Mariners rallied and cut the lead to 55-49 with 9:10 to play. WCU was unfazed by the Mariner run and quickly pushed the lead back to 12 points and never looked back.
WCU finished the game shooting 53% from the floor and dominated the game in the paint scoring 65 of their 77 points at the rim.
During his 33 year career, Knight has compiled a 600-436 (57.9%) record and becomes the 86th coach in college basketball history with 600 career wins. Knight now becomes the sixth active NAIA head coach with 600 career wins.
Reshad Bickham (SR/Jackson, Miss.) led WCU with 16 points. Donta Pittman (JR/Waynesboro, Miss.) added 15 points, Deione Weeks (JR/Horn Lake, Miss.) finished with 11 points, and Emmanuel Davis (JR/Buckatunna, Miss.) added a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The Crusaders return to action tomorrow as they host Brewton Parker College. Tip-off is set for 5:00 pm at Clinton Gym.
