Joe's Viewpoint: Thanks for supporting MS tornado relief

Joe Sciortino, General Manager Joe Sciortino, General Manager
HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Yesterday we partnered with the Greater Pine Belt Community Foundation to raise money for those affected by the December 23rd tornadoes. We held a telethon from 5am to 11pm and I am very proud to announce that your donations totaled 218,000 dollars.

When severe weather affects our area it is pretty much a no-brainer for us at the TV station. Our job is to keep people safe and then report on the people and areas affected.

Following the deaths and devastation in Marion and Jones counties, we knew we wanted to do more.

That is why we partnered with a group that ensured us that the donations would stay right here in the Pine Belt and go directly to those in the areas affected.

I am in awe of how our community has come together in this hard time. Thank you to the volunteers and to all who donated and thank you for making the Pine Belt a terrific place to live.

This is today's Viewpoint.
