Sixth graders from seven area schools gathered in downtown Hattiesburg for the annual D.A.R.E. Graduation at the Saenger Theatre.
The ten week long crime prevention program put on by the Hattiesburg Police Department ended with students celebrating, reading essays as well as some being awarded bicycles. The program not only teaches the values of being drug free, but also demonstrates important life making decisions in everyday life.
“The most important thing they can take away from this is all the skills they have learned in addition to the general decision making model will help them every single day of their lives, it doesn't matter how old they are or what they are doing in life,” said Hattiesburg Police Lt. Allen Murray.
Officers added that the graduation is a great way to show gratitude to the students for their choice to be drug free.
