JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - The Jones County teen charged in connection with pointing a loaded handgun at a Jones County deputy has been identified.
Dalton Garner, 15, of Ellisville was taken into custody on Tuesday after he was stopped by authorities near Burnt Bridge Road. It started after officers were called to the area concerning a stabbing incident near where Garner and another individual was spotted and approached by law enforcement.
During the initial contact, both suspects fled into a nearby field where the officer gave pursuit. After shouting loud verbal commands for the two suspects to stop, authorities say that Garner pulled the loaded handgun from his waist and pointed it at the deputy. He later surrendered the weapon after the officer told him to put the gun down. The other suspect that was with Garner, fled the scene and is still being sought by Jones County authorities.
Garner is being charged as an adult and went before Jones County Justice Court Judge, Howell Beech, where his bond was set at $25,000 for one count of Simple Assault on Law Enforcement.
The case is still under investigation by the Jones County Sheriff's Department.
