Teen charged as adult in simple assault for pointing gun at Jones County deputy

Jones County Sheriff's Department Jones County Sheriff's Department
JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

On Tuesday the Jones County Sheriff's Department was called to Burnt Bridge Road for a possible stabbing. While en route, deputies observed two white males who they thought might be related to the stabbing incident, running through a nearby field. The deputy then tried making contact with the individuals and issued loud verbal demands that they stop running. The males continued to flee the area and were pursued by the deputy on foot into a wooded area.

As the deputy caught up to one of the individuals, the suspect turned back towards the deputy and pulled a loaded, black handgun from his waist and pointed it at the deputy. The deputy then ordered the individual to drop the weapon at which time, he did so.

The suspect was taken into custody and was identified as being 15-years old. The other suspect fled the area.

Because of the nature of the incident, the 15-year old is being charged as an adult for Simple Assault on Law Enforcement. Because of the suspects age, his name and picture is being held. The case remains under investigation.
