Charles Darby Charles Darby
JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

On  Tuesday around 4:30 p.m., Jones County Deputies were dispatched to Burnt Bridge Road for a possible stabbing. On arrival, they found a 43-year old male who had been stabbed in the abdominal area. The victim's girlfriend identified her son, 18-year old Charles Darby as the suspect.

According to authorities, Darby and the victim had a verbal altercation over a $50 cell phone. The argument escalated after which Darby grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed the victim one time near his abdomen and then fled the scene.

Deputies were notified of a suspicious person in the area of Indian Springs Road and Industrial Boulevard approximately two hours after the incident had been reported. Investigators went to the area and identified the individual as Charles Darby who was then taken into custody.

Darby was already out on bond for identity theft and now is being charged with Aggravated Assault/Use of a Deadly Weapon or Other Means Likely to Produce Death or Serious Bodily Harm.

The victim was transported to South Central Regional Medical Center and was listed in critical condition.
