WAYNE COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - A former state conservation officer for the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, & Parks is now running for Wayne County Sheriff.
Jody Ashley announced Wednesday that he will seek the Democratic nomination for county sheriff this year.
"It's something I've wanted to do for a long time," said Ashley. "I care about Wayne County, I live there. I did leave the department of wildlife to run for sheriff."
Ashley retired from the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, & Parks in December after 27 years in the enforcement division. Prior to that, he used to work at the Wayne County Sheriff's Department as a dispatcher.
