– Southern Miss senior guard Chip Armelin garnered selection as the Conference USA men's basketball Player of the Week based on voting from a media panel covering the 14 league schools and released Monday afternoon.
Armelin averaged 25.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals in games against LSU and Louisiana Tech. He also connected on 63.3% (19-of-30) from the floor, 64.3% (9-of-14) from three and 100.0% (4-of-4).
Armelin began the week at LSU, scoring a career-high 28 points, including 18 in the first half, while grabbing a team-high six rebounds and two steals. The Sulpher, La., native also set career-highs by going 10-of-16 from the field and 6-of-8 from three, which is the fifth highest three-point percentage in a game in school history.
The senior followed that up by scoring 23 points, including 14 in the second half, in the Conference USA opener against Louisiana Tech. He also had four rebounds and two assists in a career-high 37 minutes.
Louisiana Tech's Xavian Stapleton was named Conference USA Freshman of the Week.
