HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Two Hattiesburg men are behind bars for allegedly shooting more than just fireworks to ring in the New Year.

Adrian Ashford, 23, and Terry Turner, 26, were both arrested by Hattiesburg Police in separate incidents in the Hub City.

According to Hattiesburg Police Lt. Jon Traxler, Ashford was arrested just before 1 a.m. Thursday at Jackson Wood Court where the incident allegedly occurred.

Traxler also stated that Turner was arrested around 2:30 a.m. Thursday at Nugget Court where the incident allegedly occurred.

Both men were charged with discharging a firearm in the city and were booked into the Forrest County Jail.

“Just remember when you fire a round into the air, it comes back down faster, and has to land somewhere and can also cause serious injury or death,” said Traxler. “It is also against the law to shoot a firearm in the city limits of Hattiesburg,” said Traxler.

According to Traxler, weapons were recovered at both incidents and the investigation is still ongoing.
