Lamar County murder suspect in custody

Darren Lang Darren Lang
LAMAR COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - One man is in custody and charged with murder in connection to a Friday night fatal shooting in Lamar County.

Darren Lang, 22, was taken into custody Tuesday morning at an apartment on Park Avenue near 4th Street in Hattiesburg by Lamar County Deputies and members of the U.S. Marshall's Task Force.

Lang appeared before Judge Denton Plumlee for his initial appearance, where he was denied bond for the murder charge. Lang was already out on bond for previous charges, and all other bonds were revoked by Plumlee.

Members of the Lamar County Sheriff's Department responded to a report of shots fired on N. Windridge Lane around 10 p.m. Friday.
When deputies arrived, Demetries Minor, 34, was found deceased inside of his apartment at 136 N. Windridge Lane.

Brandon Nicholson, 23, was found deceased outside of the apartment.

According to department officials, both men died from what appeared to be gunshot wounds, but both bodies have been sent to the Mississippi State Crime Lab for an autopsy.

According to Lamar County Sheriff Danny Rigel, two weapons were recovered at the scene. However evidence collected at the scene suggested that more individuals may be involved.

Rigel stated that the nature of the shooting appeared to be robbery, and the people involved did know one another. Rigel stated that this was not just a random home invasion. But due to the on going investigation could not give more details.

Witnesses at the scene said an unknown type of vehicle was seen leaving the crime scene.

According to Rigel, other arrests could be pending, and the investigation is still ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Lamar County Sheriff's Department at 601-794-8610 or Metro Crime Stoppers at 601-582-STOP.
