HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Some young professionals and businesses in Hattiesburg have teamed up, for the second year, to offer free rides home to New Year's Eve revelers who may have a little too much to drink.

The Hattiesburg Trolley Committee is sponsoring two vehicles that will run routes downtown, in the Avenues and in midtown from 8 p.m. until 2 a.m.

One vehicle is a trolley provided by the Hattiesburg Convention Commission. The other is a bus from Grove Transit.

Last New Year's Eve, more than 200 people took advantage of the service, which featured only a single trolley.

"This service is about preventing anything bad from happening New Year's Eve, trying to keep people safe, trying to promote the quality of life that we have," said Toby Barker, a member of the Hattiesburg Trolley Committee. "And so, however few people use it to however many people, we're going to be satisfied. It's going to be keeping those people off the roads," he said.

Riders will be able to track the routes of the trolleys on their cell phones by going to www.hattiesburgtrolley.com. They can also find out more about the service by clicking here
