Dec. 21 forecast

Stubborn cloud cover has ensured another cool day in the Pine Belt. Expect mild temperatures overnight in the upper 40s.

This week will start with a warm up Monday and the chance for severe weather Monday night into Tuesday. Here's the set-up: A warm front will lift through southern Mississippi Monday and showers will likely form along it, working northward from the coast. Showers are possible during the afternoon Monday but thunderstorms are more likely Monday evening/night.

Depending on the amount of shower activity along the warm front, the atmosphere could stabilize a bit and limit our threat for severe storms. The atmosphere has several other factors working in its favor, though. These storms capable of damaging straight-line winds, heavy rain (1-2"), hail, and isolated tornadoes are possible Monday evening into Tuesday. Models are growing more consistent with each run, but at this point, the window for the strongest storms spans Tuesday morning through the evening.

By around lunchtime on Christmas Eve, we'll dry out and highs will only reach the low/mid 50s. Feeling like winter just in time for the holidays!

Christmas morning will bring temperatures in the 30s but sunny skies will allow temps to reach the mid 50s by the afternoon.
