Laurel's "Shop with a Cop" helps 31 families

LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - More than two dozen needy families in Laurel are going to have a good Christmas this year, thanks to officers with Laurel's Fraternal Order of Police. Thirty-one families are benefiting from this year's "Shop with a Cop."

Saturday morning, those families made their way through the aisles of the Laurel Walmart, accompanied by officers who helped each of the children pick out $200 worth of clothing, toys and electronics.

"There's an application process," said Sgt. Michael Reaves of the Laurel Police Dept. "We review those applications with a committee and the selectees are based on need. It's something we look forward to throughout the year," he said.

The police lodge that sponsors "Shop with a Cop" was founded in 1952.
