National marathon security summit wraps up in Hattiesburg

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - A national conference on improving safety and security at long distance running events has concluded in Hattiesburg.

The National Marathon Safety and Security Summit wrapped up Thursday morning. It featured more than 100 participants from law enforcement, medicine and race planning.

It was hosted by Southern Miss' National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security (NCS4).

That organization will now begin putting together a first edition of safety and security "best practices" which is scheduled to be presented during the National Sports Safety and Security Conference in Orlando, Florida on July 6-9.
