The State Veteran's Home in Collins held the first of three Christmas parties for their residents Tuesday afternoon.
The vets had the opportunity to celebrate Christmas with their fellow veterans at the home and many of their family members. The vets and their families enjoyed party food and listened to Christmas songs sung by carolers. Each of the vet's were given Christmas presents that had been donated by members of the community.
"A lot of them aren't able to go out for the holidays, so it's very important we are able to bring it to them," said Tommie Carr, Administrator. We have lots of gifts that are donated by various organizations, like Purple Heart Bingo, Moose Lodge, and Veterans Outreach."
Three different parties are held so they can accommodate the large number veterans who live at the home. The next two are Wednesday and Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
