HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - On November 12th, the University of Southern Mississippi Athletics Department introduced two options for the school's new logo.
There were over 40,000 page views to the voting page, and 2,500 plus comments.
According to a news release, after careful consideration of the feedback and consultation with Licensing Resource Group, Rare Design, and outside licensing attorneys, the final initiated trademark registration was for the "Traditional Eye" logo.
The release also featured viewer feedback.
"Both of the proposed logos are terrific! I am impressed that you were able to keep the similarity of the previous logo while making it more of an 'attack eagle' of the past."
"This logo looks more like he is ready for battle, ready to go. More a look of confident poise."
"I actually like both, SMTTT!"
From this point forward, an application for trademark registration has been submitted to the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The process is expected to take six months to a year for completion.
Once the application is sufficiently through the examination process, USM will release the logo to the licensing partners to begin production of merchandise, according to the release.
