Suspect charged in Hattiesburg shooting

One person is in custody and charged with armed robbery and two counts of aggravated assault in connection to a morning shooting.

According to Hattiesburg Police Lt. Detective Branden McLemore Lennon Thomas, 37, was taken into custody near the scene of the shooting just after the incident occurred.

Thomas was taken to HPD and questioned, and was later transported to the Forrest County Jail and booked in.

According to McLemore, the two victims are the owners of the store, Shelton's Fast Food and Grocery.

The shooting occurred around 10:30 a.m. at 816 Edwards Street, just across from the Hattiesburg Police Department.

Upon arrival, officers discovered two victims, a male and female suffering from gunshot wounds on site according to Hattiesburg Police Maj. Hardy Sims.

The two victims were taken by ambulance to a local hospital, the extent of their injuries were not available.

Police taped off a large section on Edwards Street in front of the store where the incident occurred. Detectives as well as the HPD Crime Scene Unit combed the scene searching for evidence as well as photographing the scene.
