3 additional suspects charged with murder in Hattiesburg's 12th homicide

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Hattiesburg police have arrested two more suspects in connection to the city's 12th homicide of 2014. The drive-by shooting that occurred Nov. 29th at 312 West 4th Street and took the life of Hattiesburg resident Nathaniel Alexander, 39.

Jawan Davis, 22, and Geino Payne, 21, were taken into custody by Hattiesburg Police and charged with murder in connection to the Nov. 29th shooting. Bringing the total arrested in connection to the crime to, 12.

Jamarcus Pettigrew, 23, was previously charged with conspiracy to commit a felony and street gang activity, and was given a $100,000 bond. As the investigation has continued, Pettigrew's charges have been upgraded to murder.

Doreion Balam, 18, was also charged with conspiracy to commit a felony and street gang activity.

Other suspects charged in the crime are:

Brandon McNair, 27, is charged with murder and street gang activity, bond set at $1 million for murder, and $50,000 for gang activity.

Cedric Smith, 24, is charged with conspiracy to commit a felony and street gang activity, $100,000 bond set.

Alice Poole, 19, is charged with hindering prosecution, rendering criminal assistance, $10,000 bond.

Micahel May, 20, is charged with conspiracy to commit a felony and street gang activity, $100,000 bond set.

Anthony Crosby, 22, is charged with conspiracy to commit a felony and street gang activity, $100,000 bond set.

Ladayle Strickland, 19, is charged with conspiracy to commit a felony and street gang activity,$100,000 bond set.

Kadarius Nichols, 19, is charged with conspiracy to commit a felony and street gang activity, $100,000 bond set.

William Myers, 38, is charged with conspiracy to commit a felony and street gang activity, $100,000 bond set.

According to members of the Hattiesburg Police Department, other names could be added to the list of arrests.

Scene of the Crime:

Forrest County Coroner Butch Benedict stated Alexander died in the operating room at Forrest General Hospital shortly before 11:00 p.m. Saturday from what appears to be multiple gunshot wounds.

According to Benedict, the body has been sent to the Mississippi State Crime Lab for an autopsy.

Hattiesburg police responded to the scene of shooting assisting AAA ambulance service at 312 West 4th Street shortly before 9:00 p.m. Saturday.

Upon arrival, police found Alexander suffering from what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds outside the residence. He was transported to Forrest General Hospital where he later died.

Witnesses on the scene stated that the incident was a drive by shooting, and multiple shots were fired.

Police officers searched the street and front yard of the home with flashlights inside the taped off area along 4th Street.

Shell casings that covered the roadway were collected by members of the Hattiesburg Crime Scene Unit.
