HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Hundreds of needy children and their families received holiday gifts and a special Christmas message Saturday, thanks to the folks at Hattiesburg's Christian Services, Inc.  At an annual, Birthday Party for Jesus at the Ben McNair Center, families took part in a special birthday program and then children received a sack lunch, gift bags and donated toys.

About 100 volunteers worked to help make the event memorable for the families who came to the party.

"Today, we've got between 450 and 500 people and we've got some pretty nice toys we're sending out with these kids for their Christmas, whether it's the only one they get, or if it's a little something extra," said Bill Prout, executive director of Christian Services, Inc.

"This is my third time coming here and every time we come here, we have a good experience and the kids like it," said Maxine Odie. She brought her two grandchildren to the party.

"Hopefully, (Christian Services will) keep doing it," said Josie Griffin, who brought her children to the event. "The kids love to come and they love the entertainment.," she said.

This was the 28th year for the Birthday Party for Jesus.
