Petal Police: Shop with a Cop

Almost two dozen kids from the Pine Belt got a special treat today and got the chance to Shop with a Cop.

Petal police officers were joined by other agencies to fill shopping carts with Christmas gifts for kids.

Children picked things they needed from shoes to clothes and even some items from the toy department.

Money used during the shopping program was raised by law enforcement agencies with the help of several local businesses and multiple fundraisers.

“The officers really enjoy being able to give back, cause most children only get to deal with officers in a moment of crisis. So for them, this is a chance for the officers to deal with children in a positive light and for the children to see officers in a positive light,” said Petal Police Administration Assistant Miranda Williams.

In addition to the annual shopping program, kids got a chance to enjoy pizza, tour the Petal Police station, a K-9 demonstration as well as check out the lights and sirens on the police cars.
