HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The Claiborne Retirement Community hosted its grand opening on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

Faculty, current residents, and community members were invited to enjoy live music, food, and drinks. A ribbon cutting was held at 5:45 p.m. followed by an open house for anyone that wanted to see what the facility has to offer.

“There has got to be four or five hundred people here. It's an exciting time to share the building with the community,” said owner Rob Tatum. “We are obviously very proud of what we have been able to accomplish with the whole team here. We are just glad that we are able to share it with the community.”

The Claiborne assisted living facility provides maintenance-free living, independent cottages, and provides programs for individuals with memory-related diseases. The minimum age to apply is 55.

Tatum said that there are over thirty residents currently living at the Claiborne. He continued to say that phase two of construction is underway and that it should be completed by the end of spring. Phase two will include 132 independent living units, its own hair salon, coffee shop, general store, and much more.

The Claiborne at Hattiesburg is located at 200 Whispering Pines Blvd.
