JCJC Donates Toys to the Salvation Army to Help Needy Families

ELLISVILLE, MS (WDAM) -

This is a news release from Jones County Junior College

Jones County Junior College faculty and staff continued the traditional toy drive for a grateful Laurel Salvation Army. Several large bags of toys were collected at the annual Employee Recognition Luncheon to assist the Salvation Army with its Angel Tree program.

Salvation Army's Lt. Stacey Connelly said, “Our tables are bare so this will help tremendously. Sixty-three percent of the applications for toys and a Christmas food box come from the working poor so we know we are finally reaching the needy; those that are looking for a hand-up not a hand-out. The Angel Tree ministry is one of the ways we offer hope to the hopeless.”

Lt. Connelly added the Salvation Army will be helping more than 300 families in the area this Christmas season as it celebrates the 75th anniversary of the Salvation Army in Laurel.

The Toy Drive began three years ago as part of a new JCJC Christmas tradition. JCJC President, Dr. Jesse Smith explained, “This was an opportunity for the college's employees to give back to the community and our employees were very generous. Gifts kept coming long after the luncheon was over. This makes me even prouder to be a part of the Jones family.”
