The South Mississippi Art Association (SMAA) will host its 38th Annual Art Show and Sale at the Historic Train Depot in Downtown Hattiesburg on Saturday, Dec. 13.

The show is held in conjunction with Downtown Hattiesburg's December Art Walk, sponsored by the Downtown Historic District. The SMAA is an organization whose members are local artists showcasing their recent artworks to be judged by an outside, professional artist.

This year's judge of the competition will be Mary Hardy, a professional artist from Ocean Springs, MS (www.maryhardystudio.com).

Awards are given in the categories of acrylic and oil, pastel and drawing, photography, watercolor, 2D and 3D sculpture and “other,” including mixed media and fabric art.

“Visitors will be impressed with the quality, variety and affordability of the artwork,” said R. T. Thomas, SMAA President. Vixon Sullivan, this year's show Chair and SMAA Newsletter Editor, stated, “We're looking forward to a high quality show that presents the talent of members of this community and its cultural diversity.”

Live music will be provided by USM students Charity Parker, flute, and Tae Young Hong, piano.

Admission is free, all artwork is for sale, and the public is invited to view both juried and non-juried pieces all day Saturday, Dec. 13, from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm. The Historic Train Depot is located at 308 Newman St.
