STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) - T'Roderick Daniels ran for 219 yards and three touchdowns to lead Bassfield over Calhoun City for a 60-35 victory and its third straight Mississippi High School Athletics Association Class 2A title.
In a rematch of last year's championship game, Bassfield (14-2) gained 541 yards of total offense against Calhoun City (14-1), including 472 on the ground. The Yellow Jackets attempted only four passes in the game.
Bassfield averaged 11 yards per play. Jamal Peters added 109 yards rushing and a touchdown and three others ran for at least 40 yards.
Calhoun City put up big numbers too, but could not match Bassfield's prolific pace. The Wildcats finished with 316 yards of total offense plus another 173 yards on kickoffs. Quarterback Chakel Gates ran for 103 yards and a touchdown. Brieton Sykes added 79 yards rushing and a touchdown.
Bassfield led 20-13 at halftime.
