State championship game delayed due to power outage

STARKVILLE, MS (WDAM) - The Mississippi High School Athletics Association Football Championship was delayed Friday night during the Oak Grove vs. South Panola game due to a power outage at Davis Wade Stadium in Starkville.

The stadium lost a transformer during the 6A championship game, which resulted in televised-play returning to regular programming on NBC 7.3, or Bounce.

The game has been delayed until further notice.

Mississippi State University Communications Director Sid Salter said via Twitter (@sidsalter) that the University's Crisis Action Team (CAT) was assessing the damage. Salter said power was restored as of 8 p.m. but stadium lights were being held off "for slow restart for safety reasons."

The origin of the outage is still unknown, but Salter tweeted that the game is expected to resume Friday night when severe weather cleared and safety requirements were met.
