LAMAR COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

A new playground in Lamar County's Optimist Park is open for everyone to enjoy.

This playground has been in the works for over a year. Lamar Park Partners, a volunteer organization, raised the money to construct the area.

“It shows you the kind of people you have living in the area. It's there want and need for areas like this,” said Phillip Carlisle, Lamar County District Four Supervisor.

There are many activities for children, and workout equipment for adults to use.

“We just love it. We love it being here in our community,” said local resident, Kristy Marshall. “It is close to us, safe for our children to play, and it's something that is just great for everybody.”

Many believe that the park is in a great location.

The park could close for a short time in March for construction on a new walking trail that will surround the park.
