JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - December is always a special time of the year filled with several holiday events in Jones County,especially thiss week.
On December 4,the lighting of the Laurel Christmas tree will be held at Pinehurst Park inDowntown. Familiess and friends are welcomed to attend the annual event which begins at 5:30 p.m. The park will spring to life soon after 6 p.m. as president of BancorpSouth, Ray Palmer lights the tree. The Laurel High School choir along with the ballet academy will be performing. Free hot chocolate, apple cider and candy canes will be on hand.
After the event is overhead to the Laurel-Jones County Library. From 6 to 7:30 p.m. kids get to meet Santa Claus and also enjoy some holiday treats and hot cocoa.
On Friday the City of Ellisville will host its annual Christmas tree lighting at 5:30 p.m. at the Community Bank Plaza in Downtown. The Ellisville Rotary Club will provide hot chocolate and cookies.
On Saturday the annual Kiwanis Club of Laurel is hosting its annual Pancake Day.
That event will be from 6 a.m. until 2 p.m. Pancakes will be available at the YWCO on Oak Street and at First Baptist Church on 6th Avenue. Tickets are $5 in advance, or $6 at the door.
Also on Saturday, the largest Christmas parade in Mississippi will be held through the streets of Downtown Laurel. This year's Sertoma Parade theme is "The Carols of Christmas" with Grand Marshals Martin and Godwin of A & E's Duck Dynasty.
Ellisville will also have their Christmas parade at 2 p.m. and Sandersville will have theirs at 6 p.m.
