According to Secretary of State, Delbert Hosemann, "Mississippians are some of the most generous givers in the nation" and "over 1300 Mississippi charities raised over 1 billion dollars in our state last year." That is amazing and very generous. And with all of this charitable giving, we want to be sure our donations are going to a good cause.
This is why we recommend you check your charity before you give. All charities are required to be registered with the state and a full list of those charities can be found on the secretary of state website. The Better Business Bureau sets the standard by recommending that charities spend at least 65 percent of collected funds on actual programs that relate to the organizations stated purpose.
