LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - In many Pinebelt households, Thanksgiving weekend means three things: Turkey, football and getting a jumpstart on Christmas shopping.
Black Friday was the result of retail stores giving shoppers a little extra incentive to shop the weekend after Thanksgiving by offering incredible sales. But in recent years, the concept of Black Friday has been evolving until now, stores are opening up much sooner than ever before. Some stores have already started their Thanksgiving sales. Then there are also many stores which are opening up Thanksgiving day and staying open much later than ever before.
At the Turtle Creek Mall, in Hattiesburg, Black Friday means all night shopping deals for area residents. Participating stores will open on Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m. and stay open all night the close of the next business hour on Friday night. This was an attempt to accommodate shoppers and help keep them out of long lines and out of the weather. Many businesses are offering extra sales and special pricing just for the event.
All of this means that Thanksgiving could be the best day to shop all year. As Black Friday is being redefined, the sales haven't , which show that American consumers are thankful for the great deals the retail market is offering to them and adapting with the shopping experience that has come to be known as Black Friday.
