HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Local organizers of the Christmas charity "Be a Santa to a Senior" say public response to the program has been overwhelming so far.

The folks with Home Instead Senior Care said dozens of ornaments from a tree at the Turtle Creek Mall have already been selected by shoppers. That tree has been up for only a few days.

The ornaments include the name of a needy senior and some of the items they'd like for Christmas. You can participate by choosing an ornament from one of several local trees, buying a gift and returning it unwrapped to Home Instead Senior Care's office in Oak Grove.

"We have three tree locations this year," said Keisha Kennedy, operations manager at Home Instead Senior Care. "Of course, here at Turtle Creek Mall, Priority One Bank off of Highway 98 and then, we also have a tree at BancorpSouth in Laurel.  So, people can go to any one of those locations (and) pick up an ornament," she said.

You can donate items until Dec. 15.

The gifts will be delivered on Dec. 18.
