Southern Miss is out of the running to become bowl eligible for the third consecutive year (3-8, 1-6 in C-USA), but with a win Saturday, they can spoil the postseason hopes for UAB.
"I think our guys are excited for a last shot at The Rock. Our seniors, we will be honoring them this week," said head coach Todd Monken.
The visitors come into Hattiesburg with a 5-6 overall record (3-4 in C-USA) and have an opportunity to qualify for their first bowl appearance since 2004.
While being a thorn in the Blazers side is not the main motivation for the Golden Eagles, it is a chance to send 16 Black and Gold seniors out on a high note in the final game of their USM careers.
"A number of guys that have been through the ups and the downs, from 2011 to winning the league, to the struggles we've had to come back."
"I think that's a microcosm of life, you know, in terms of not everything in life is going to be perfect, but how do you battle and [a] true testament of a man is how you handle tough times," said Monken.
"I think our seniors have done a good job of fighting through that and leading and so, it will be fun to play here one last time."
Southern Miss and UAB are set for A 2:30 p.m. kickoff.
