Lamar County Emergency Coalition conducts disaster emergency drill

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Hattiesburg, MS – The Lamar County Emergency Coalition conducted a disaster drill today designed to help local emergency response agencies with their response during real emergencies.

Representatives from Wesley Medical Center, the Mississippi Department of Health, Forrest County Emergency Operations Center, the Lamar County Sheriff's Department, Lamar County Emergency Management Agency and the US Army Civil Support Team participated in the drill which centered on a scenario with multiple disasters, including a tornado and train derailment. The drill began at Optimist Park in Oak Grove, where ambulance services transported 15 proxy patients with varying conditions to Wesley Medical Center for triage and treatment.

Co-founded by Wesley Medical Center's Emergency Department Director, Dixie Norris and Wesley's Environment of Care Chairman, Judy Gill, the team serves to continually improve local disaster response and joint efforts between all agencies in the event of an actual disaster.
