JACKSON, MS (WDAM) - Mississippi House Speaker Philip Gunn was in Laurel Monday, highlighting the gains the state has made since the Republican takeover of the house.
He also spoke about a large corporation, looking at a potential site for expansion in the Hinds County area.
While Gunn won't identify the company that is interested in the Magnolia state, he was cautiously optimistic they would make Mississippi their new home.
"They're still looking at, trying to make a decision about what location they want to come; I think they've narrowed their choices down to a couple sites and we're still one of them." Gunn said, "We're optimistic and hopeful that they will come to the Jackson Metro Area and could bring potentially 1,000 to 4,000 jobs over the next five years, so that's the kind of stuff that we want to continue doing in Mississippi."
Gunn also emphasized the importance of Mississippi colleges to continue educating Mississippi's future work force.
