HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Head coach Todd Monken said Monday that he anticipated Nick Mullens will play at quarterback for Southern Miss against UTSA (2-7, C-USA: 1-4).
Yesterday, that changed to a game-time decision.
The Golden Eagles have lost three straight games with Mullens recovering from a foot injury he suffered against Louisiana Tech.
With a 3-7 (C-USA: 1-5) record heading into San Antonio, redshirt sophomore offensive tackle Brandon Farmer said it's time to turn things around.
"We're real hungry. Even though we know the situation that we are in, we can't keep our heads down," said Farmer at the team's weekly press conference. "We know that we have to go in here and try hard to get this victory for the team and for the school."
Redshirt junior long snapper Lance Shuffert added to his teammate's sentiment.
"Everybody wants to get one. Obviously, the bowl possibilities are out of reach now, but everybody wants to still do the best that we can and keep this program moving forward and to get where we can be hopefully next year," said Shuffert.
The game against UTSA is tonight at 7 p.m. on the CBS Sports Network.
