HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

After 13 seasons Randy Jackson is leaving "American Idol."

Producers said Jackson will be welcomed back as a visitor. Jackson made up Idol's original judging panel along with Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul.

After serving as a judge for 12 seasons the word "dawg" became his trademark word while on the show.

Earlier this year Jackson moved to the role of mentor. In January "American Idol" is set to return with judges Harry Connick Jr., Keith Urban, and Jennifer Lopez.
