Canned food donations benefit disabled Veterans

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Local schools and businesses are asking for canned goods to benefit disabled veterans.

Living Independence for Everyone coordinated the event, and the canned good will go to residents of Oak Arbor.

L.I.F.E is a non-profit organization that empowers individuals with significant disabilities to live in their communities and neighborhoods.

“Well we're doing the can donations for the facility here at Oak Arbor of Hattiesburg, we're trying to just facilitate and give food back to the community being that we work with disabled youth and elderly here at Life of Mississippi,” said Za'Tarra McSwain, an AmeriCorps representative.

“I wanted to focus on giving back to the community being that its veterans day today I wanted to give back to the veterans," McSwain Said.

L.I.F.E. will continue collecting donations and food after the holiday.
