Grandmother and granddaughter injured when tire blew

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -  This is a news release from the Jones County Fire Council 

A 47-year old grandmother and her 8-year old granddaughter were injured in an accident in Jones County, Sunday, November 9, when the front tire blew on the vehicle they were traveling in on 84 East near the Wayne and Jones County line.

At 4:12 p.m., emergency medical responders and rescue units from M&M and Powers Volunteer Fire Departments were dispatched to the accident.  Upon arrival they found a Ford truck off the road with the tongue of the camper it was pulling wedged under the back of the truck, and the camper in shambles.

The accident occurred when the front right tire blew on the Ford truck, and the grandfather, who was driving, lost control and ran off the road. 

The grandmother and granddaughter were transported to South Central Regional Medical Center by EMServ ambulance service with what was believed to be minor injuries.  The grandfather was not injured and declined transportation to the hospital.

Also responding to the accident were Jones County Sheriff's Department and Mississippi Highway Patrol.
